Papers on The Table

Hey!

In this column I will be posting images related to the work I have done in class time and some commentaries + images related to readings for the class, based on the book "Launching the Imagination: A Guide to Two-Dimensional Design", by Mary Stewart.

Element of color II

Hello,

The following work was done while we were studying Simultaneous Contrast.

Simultaneous Contrast happens when a color changes when used with other. When the contrast between the colors are too big or too small, some interesting effects can happen. This is the result of color interaction - the influence of a color over another color. Thus, we have the Bezold effect.

Let's look at some of them:

Both blues are really the same color!

          1. Light/Dark

No color changes in the little cubs, but the they seem to fade or become stronger depending on black and white proximity

          2. Complimentary reaction:

The colors in the middle seem to be different in value, but they are the same.

Blue and orange are complimentary color in the color wheel

          3. Subtle variations:

The colors seem to be different in hue

In Art 115 you can see the work I did in this project!

Element of color I

Hey,

We have studied the Elements of Color, what are they and how to make use of them in a composition.
This are some examples of each element.

           1. Additive colors:
                                                      Primary colors on this group
RGB (Red, Green, Blue)

          2. Subtractive colors:
                                                        Primary colors in this group
Red, Yellow, Blue

          3. Process colors:
                                                         The transparent primaries

Magenta, yellow and cyan blue

What we most use is the subtractive color. We use the color wheel as guidance to create the colors in by hue, value, chromatic and/or muted.

Final Project - Ideas

This are some of the images I took in the Portland Art Museum today, looking for a painting that draw my attention, thinking on color scheme and other subtopics.
Let's look at it!

Severin Roesen, Still  Life of Flowers and Fruits, 1870 - 72.

I loved the details in this painting! Oil on canvas.

Alfred Sisley, Vallee de la Seine, 1885

Pierre-August Renoir, The Seine at Argenteuil, 1874

Kenneth NolandNo.One, 1958

Principles of 2D Design

This are images that I found on Internet to show some examples of the Principles of 2D design.

The "Gestalt Psychology" is one of the main principles that give to an artist many ideas to work with. I listed 10 subtopics of it and included one word and image I think that fit with the meaning of each one.

           1. Grouping: arrangement
Kandinsky, Severe Circles, 1926

           2. Containment: contour

Marlina Veras, Acrylic Painting.

           3. Repetition: again
Paul Klee

           4. Proximity: distance

           5. Continuity: connections
Anastasiya Malakhova, Digital Art

           6. Movement: pathways
Van Gogh, The Starry Night

           7. Focal point: importance
Michelangelo

           8. Closure: whole

           9. Pattern: repetition
Alfred Jensen, Square XXI Growth, 1968

         10. Grid: stability
Alfred Jensen, Divine Analogy
